Swift and nimble is a gazelle and this New Testament woman’s name translates to the same. Like gazelle’s typically socialize in groups, this lady disciple was also surrounded by a circle of friends. Her death brought a group of widows to her side, in her hometown of Joppa. It’s a possibility these women worked together in ministry. Whether they did or not, at her death, they gathered in appreciation of their dear friend. Which isn’t unusual to see people drawn to someone that is well known for her good deeds and helping the poor.

These widows treasured her qualities and had an admiration for the contents of her heart. So, it wasn’t a surprise to see they weren’t ready to let her go when she died.

Word was, Peter was in a nearby town, and a plan was put in place to track him down and bring him to the respected and deceased woman. Peter arrived, and the widows greeted him with tears while cherishing and respecting the work she done with her hands, as a seamstress. Can you hear this woman’s testimony through her friends?

How is God using your friends?

Does this lady have any characteristics that you look for in friends?

Do your friends see the gifts and talents God has given you?

Little did they know, God wasn’t finished showing Himself to others through her. It’s not clear if the ladies had specific hopes of Peter’s arrival. But they may have gotten more than they expected when her testimony continued. Once Peter arrived, he humbly prayed, and she arose. Her experience was the talk of the town and the Lord got all the glory.

Do you find any other characteristics in this lady disciple? You can find her in Acts 9:36-43. I invite you to leave comments with your unique finds.
