A Dinner Gathering - Segment #2 in the Who She Is? Series for Single Christian Women

Have you ever been so captivated by someone in a crowded room that you were unable to hear or see the crowd you stood among?

Most guests at dinner parties are preoccupied with casual chatter and the evening's menu.

The lady we are looking at today was an exception. Although she didn't attend the dinner empty-handed, she did seem to be the only guest who arrived with a different purpose in mind than dining. She came to worship.

It appears she was undoubtedly familiar with the town and its social dynamics. But this night, she was present at the dinner because Jesus was in attendance. No pleasing aromas or gossipy conversations could distract her from Him. With unshakable determination, she was prepared to direct her undivided attention towards worship. But what fueled her unwavering commitment?

Her intentions of the evening weren’t fueled by a desire to get attention; instead, she intended to give attention. Every fiber of her being overflowed with gratitude for Jesus. Her appreciation seized the room like a spectacle, becoming the talk of the evening. Yet, sadly, her genuine love was misunderstood.

While her testimony poured out through action, a witness failed to grasp the depth of her love. Proving that perception isn’t always the truth. This man couldn’t see that her worshipful actions stemmed from a place of sincere gratitude and a transformed life. Ignorant of the beauty unfolding before his eyes, he questioned Jesus and even directed insults at her. However, she didn’t need to defend herself because Jesus defended her Himself.

The love that flowed from her heart was rooted in forgiveness received. Jesus explained, “Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven – for she loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little.” Luke 7:47.

Have you witnessed or experienced the correlation between forgiveness and love as Jesus explains in Luke 7:47?

  • What stands out most to you about the events at this dinner party?

  • Has your heart ever been misunderstood?

  • Who was honoring who during this gathering?

  • How is your testimony expressed?

  • Share your thoughts on perception.

You can find Who She Is? in Luke 7:36 – 50. Do a little more investigating yourself and see other events that took place during this dinner.
