Sherri J. Cullison, Author of S.O.S. A Mother’s Story of Survival, Rescue, and Hope in the Darkness of Teen Suicide joins the Single Christian Women Speak podcast to share a message of Hope in Grieving.

Sherri brings wisdom through experience in this episode. Her insight is useful for both those grieving and those who want to support, encourage, and love someone who is grieving.  When Sherri wrote S.O.S. A Mother’s Story of Survival, Rescue, and Hope in the Darkness of Teen Suicide, she focused on writing from the point of being real, relentless, and raw. Her story is powerful, and she holds nothing back.

Hope in Grieving

Grief affects everyone and can arise suddenly. In her book, Sherri writes, “Grief is a door that we have no choice but to walk through, an onset of emotions that actually helps to get us through the process.” This is a small sample of the hope Sherri offers to others as she shares her story.

Our Response to Grief

Life events can be overwhelming, and we are accustomed to reacting to them. But how can we benefit from slowing our response when we feel overwhelmed with life? Sherri responds to that question by explaining, “The first step we need to take is to not take a step.” Then she declares, “God wants us to run to Him.” Listen as she shares more from her personal experience.

Loneliness in Grieving

Loneliness is often associated with grieving. Sherri encourages the listener by declaring, “We are loved,” and advises us to “Remind ourselves that God loves us no matter what.” She continues by directing the listener to reach out and talk to someone, such as a trusted friend, family member, pastor, counselor, or by texting 988—a crisis line.

The Need for Faith While Grieving

The pressures of single parenting can mount up. When asked, “What steps can one take to strengthen our faith?” Sherri specifies common pressures, fears, and doubts that can arise. Then encourages us to “stay close to God” by staying in the Word and building our prayer life. She explains, “No matter what you are going through, no matter how much you have on your plate, you need to remember how much God loves you.”

When We Think We Have Nothing to Offer

Do you struggle to know what to say when someone is experiencing tragic grief? Learn ways to offer encouragement as Sherri gives suggestions of supportive words that many of us struggle to find in those difficult moments. She also shares valuable ideas on things to do, such as spending time in conversation over coffee, or acknowledging the lost loved one and their memory on special occasions.

Joy in Grieving

The listener who struggles knowing where to turn when they are losing hope will receive encouragement from Sherri’s message as she shares her thoughts while grieving, “In my grief, I actually allowed my mind to think that I would never smile again. But I smile a lot. There is still joy in the life of a grieving mom.”

Embrace hope through Sherri’s story as she opens her heart and shares personal experiences while grieving as a mother. This episode is also available on Amazon Music, Spotify, and iTunes.
